Hydraulic Stick Cylinder
A hydraulic stick cylinder is a type of hydraulic cylinder used to move a machine's dipper arm. It is usually the most oversized cylinder on the device. When shopping for a hydraulic stick cylinder, it is crucial to consider factors such as the required force, the cylinder's mounting, the stroke length, the speed, the operating pressure, the direction of the force, and the method for stopping the workload once it has begun.
Applications of hydraulic cylinder
Bore diameter: 50mm~115mm
Rod diameter: 25mm~70mm
Stroke≤1000mm
Maximum 305KN
Pressure: 29.4MPa
How does a Hydraulic Stick Cylinder work?
A hydraulic stick cylinder, also known as a hydraulic arm cylinder or boom cylinder, is a crucial component in hydraulic systems used in various machinery such as excavators and backhoes. It works on the principles of hydraulic power and fluid pressure to provide controlled movement and force for the extension and retraction of the stick or boom arm.
Here's how a hydraulic stick cylinder works:
1. Hydraulic fluid supply: The hydraulic system supplies pressurized hydraulic fluid, usually oil, from a reservoir through a pump to the stick cylinder. The fluid is directed through control valves that regulate its flow and pressure.
2. Cylinder construction: The hydraulic stick cylinder consists of a cylinder barrel, a piston, and a piston rod. The cylinder barrel is a cylindrical tube with sealed ends. The piston is a cylindrical component that fits tightly inside the cylinder barrel, dividing it into two chambers: the rod side (head end) and the cap side (blind end). The piston rod extends from the piston and is connected to the stick or boom arm.
3. Fluid pressure application: When pressurized hydraulic fluid is directed to the cylinder's rod side (head end), it pushes against the piston, creating a force that extends the piston rod. The pressure is evenly distributed across the piston, generating a balanced squad.
4. Stick extension: As the hydraulic fluid applies pressure to one side of the piston, it extends the piston rod, causing the stick or boom arm to extend outward. This extension allows for increased reach and maneuverability of the machinery, enabling it to perform tasks such as digging, lifting, or carrying loads.
5. Retraction: To retract the stick or boom arm, the hydraulic fluid is directed to the cap side (blind end) of the cylinder. The pressure from the fluid pushes against the opposite side of the piston, retracting the piston rod and bringing the stick or boom arm back to its original position.
6. Control valves: The flow and direction of hydraulic fluid to the stick cylinder are controlled by hydraulic control valves. The equipment operator operates these valves and allow for precise control of the stick's movement, enabling accurate positioning and efficient operation of the machinery.
7. Sealing: Seals are utilized in the hydraulic stick cylinder to prevent hydraulic fluid leakage and maintain pressure within the cylinder. They are positioned at various points, such as around the piston and piston rod, ensuring a tight seal and preventing fluid from escaping.
Hydraulic stick cylinders play a vital role in the operation of hydraulic machinery, providing controlled and powerful movement for the stick or boom arm. They offer versatility, efficiency, and precise control, making them essential components in various industries, including construction, excavation, and mining.
