Maintenance of Trailers
1. Daily maintenance
(1) the trailer body and chassis should be cleaned promptly after each operation.
(2) Check if all safety devices and light pens are reliable.
(3) Check whether the steel plate springs and U-bolts on the front and rear axles of the trailer are loose, displaced, cracked, or broken.
(4) Check the inflation condition of the tires and inflate them according to regulations, with an error not exceeding ± 0.5kg/cm ². In addition, check the tightness of the nuts on each wheel.
2. Trailers should undergo the following maintenance every 600 to 800 kilometers traveled:
(1) Check the steel plate springs, bushings, and pins. If the wear of the steel plate spring pin exceeds 1.5mm, the gap between the pin and the bushing is too large and should be replaced.
(2) According to regulations, lubricate each part, check the clearance of each hub bearing, adjust if necessary, and add calcium-based grease.
(3) Check if there are cracks in the welding points of the frame if the connecting bolts are loose, and check the sealing of the braking system and the vehicle's primary brake control mechanism.
3. When driving a trailer for 3000-4000 kilometers, in addition to the above maintenance, the following care should also be carried out:
(1) Clean and adjust the hub bearings, and add lubricating grease; Clean and inspect the wear of the spring steel plate, and make necessary repairs or replacements; To change the bearing clearance, first tighten the adjusting nut to the end, then retract it by 1/6 turn, and then draw it.
(2) Check and adjust the brake, and repair or replace it based on the wear of the brake drum. The brake cannot be changed too tightly. When the unit is driving at a speed of 18km/h, the wheel brake mark should be 4-5m.
(3) Check the traction frame, main frame, wheel axles, and other components for bending, deformation, and cracks, and repair them if necessary.

When determining the size of the trailer jack required for the vessel, the vessel should consider its "wet" weight, including the vessel itself, plus the weight of all loading equipment and fuel. It is essential to distinguish between wet weight and dry weight, as dry weight refers to the weight specified by the factory without any power or additional rigging. In other words, do not rely on your ship manual when choosing a ship trailer jack. The fuel on board weighs about 7 pounds per gallon, so depending on the size of the fuel tank on board, it may weigh 500 pounds or even more when fully loaded!
Generally speaking, a tongue jack should be able to lift at least 10% of the trailer weight, preferably 15%. This means that if your trailer has a total weight of 5000 pounds (which is common when adding bathroom/shower/sink water), the rated importance of your tongue jack should be at least 500 to 750 pounds.
Understand trailer frame dimensions.
Most people believe that the length exceeds 8 ½. Is the foot trailer 'too large' and subject to additional restrictions? Each state also specifies the maximum length of ship trailers and the maximum size of trailers and trailers (despite further changes). Jacking up longer ship trailers is more complex as they typically have a more uneven weight distribution and dual wheel design.
