What size trailer ball do I need?
Three things will determine the size of the trailer ball required for towing settings: your coupling size, trailer ball hole diameter, and towing capacity.
In short, the diameter of the trailer ball must match the size of the coupling, the diameter of the trailer handle must match its ball hole, and the weight must be sufficient to tow the trailer safely.
Step 1: Match the size of the ball and coupler
When selecting a trailer ball, first select the ball diameter by matching it with the coupling size. Most manufacturers stamp or mark the correct trailer ball size on the joint.
Before towing, ensure that the joint and trailer ball joint are securely connected and make all necessary adjustments.

Step 2: Match the handle with the trailer ball hole
The holes on the spherical bracket or bumper hitch platform are the locations for fixing the trailer's spherical bolts. It is essential to understand the diameter of this hole so that you can choose a trailer ball with a matching rod diameter.
If the trailer handle is too small, it will move and may become loose during towing. If the connecting rod size is too small for the trailer ball hole, a reducer bushing can compensate for the difference.
Step 3: Match the carrying capacity of the traction system
Weight capacity must always be considered when selecting a tow ball or any towing accessory. The rated weight of the trailer steel ball will be listed as the steel ball capacity. Please note that this will reflect the trailer's total weight limit, not the tongue's weight.
You must select a trailer ball with a capacity that exceeds the trailer's total weight.
