Trailer parts 12 "fan-shaped brake drum with eight bolts
Drum brakes are very similar to disc brakes... Whenever the brake pedal is pressed, the brake fluid flows through the brake pipeline through the master cylinder, generating friction by pressing the brake shoes against the brake drum. As we all know, drum brakes produce slightly more friction than disk brakes, which can achieve more effective deceleration.

How Drum Brakes Work
The cylinder is connected to a fixed back plate made of thick metal. Drum brake diagram dual servo rear drum brake. The back plate is fixed to the axle or spindle with bolts. Anchors riveted or bolted to the backing plate provide a stopping device for the brake shoe. In some vehicles, a single anchor point is placed at the top (dual servo), while in other vehicles, it is placed at the bottom (non servo), as shown in the following figure. Non servo settings are mainly used for small cars.
When the driver presses the brake pedal, the hydraulic pressure generated in the brake master cylinder pushes the piston out of the wheel brake master cylinder through the hydraulic braking system. The piston pushes out the brake shoe. Therefore, the friction material (lining) comes into contact with the brake drum, causing its rotational speed to slow down. The drum absorbs and dissipates the heat generated.
What are the symptoms related to brake drum damage?
Soft or weak brakes: If your car cannot feel a quick stop or reacts incorrectly when pressing the brake pedal, you may need to replace the brake shoes and drums.
Squeaking, friction, or grinding sound: When the brake shoes wear, they will begin to rub against the brake drum. Grinding will produce a sound that you are sure to hear. If you start making any noise while braking, we recommend replacing the brake as soon as possible to avoid further damage to the brake drum or disc.
Brake pedal vibration: Just like a brake disc, the brake drum will naturally wear over time. Whenever they wear out, you will start to feel the brake pedal vibrating. If people don't hear other noises, they usually don't pay too much attention to vibrating the pedals. However, if you encounter this situation, we strongly recommend that you inspect the brakes to ensure safety and minimize maintenance costs.
Weak or loose parking brake: A vehicle's parking brake usually depends on the firm compression between the brake shoes and brake drums to ensure safe parking, especially when parking on a slope. Whenever there is a problem with the brake drum and/or brake shoes, and when you try to apply the parking brake, the brake will feel loose. You may also find that every time you apply the parking brake, the vehicle feels as if it is slipping.
