The 86435-S is an automatically adjustable electric trailer brake assembly that makes it safer to use trailer braking during emergency stops. The electric trailer brake generates wear and slows the trailer by activating the electromagnetic brake drum. When the surge brake operates independently, the electric trailer brake must be connected to the power supply of the towing vehicle and adjusted by the brake control unit or electric brake controller.
The importance of large-scale traction and braking controllers
You may have realized that more than just the tractor's brakes are required to stop the vehicle completely and its trailer within the appropriate time frame. Considering the weight and speed of the trailer, it is evident that the trailer also needs to tilt using its braking force.
This is achieved through the trailer brakes, one of two types: surge (mechanical or hydraulic), which relies on inertia for automatic deceleration, or electric brakes, which must be electrically connected to the tractor to operate. The principle behind the surge (override or overspeed) brake is simple.
The coupling includes a sliding shaft connected to the traction ball. Due to vehicle deceleration, the axle slides when pushed and applies pressure directly to the mechanical linkage (mechanical brake) or the linkage connected to the hydraulic cylinder, thereby generating hydraulic pressure on the braking system (hydraulic brake). These often appear on camping trailers or boat trailers.
