Agricultural Gearbox For Hay Tedder
Product Description
The Role of Agricultural Gearboxes in Hay Tedders
Reduction: The tractor's power take-off (PTO) typically runs at a higher speed (e.g., 540 RPM or 1000 RPM). The hay tedder's rotors (carrying the teeth) need to rotate at a lower, more optimal speed to gently and effectively spread and loosen the hay without damaging the crop or throwing it too far. The gearbox reduces the high input speed to the correct operating speed for the rotors.
Torque Multiplication: As speed decreases, torque simultaneously increases. The increased torque is essential to overcome the resistance of the hay and the ground, allowing the teeth to effectively lift, spread, and aerate the crop.
Directional Change: Hay tedders are often equipped with multiple rotors that need to rotate in a specific direction to achieve an even spread. Gearboxes, especially bevel or helical bevel gears, facilitate this right-angle power transfer and ensure that adjacent rotors rotate in opposite directions or that all rotors rotate in the desired pattern.
Power Distribution: In a multi-rotor tedder, the main gearbox takes power from the power take-off (PTO) and distributes it to the individual rotor gearboxes or directly to the drive shaft, ensuring that each rotor runs in sync.
Durability and Reliability: Hay tedders operate in dusty, dirty, and sometimes even uneven field conditions. The gearbox is rugged and durable with high-strength gears and bearings to withstand continuous operation, vibration, and occasional foreign object impacts, ensuring a long and reliable service life.
Night Mowing Function (select models): Some advanced tedders are equipped with a "night mowing gearbox" that can further reduce the rotor speed (for example, by 1/3). This allows the tedder to gently gather the hay into smaller piles overnight, preventing it from absorbing too much water and helping it dry faster the next day.

POWER To ensure the correct use of the product we recommand to pay attention to the specifications mentioned on our technical sheet.Consider also the input rotation speed, the power input and the transmission ratios.Where the rotation or other working conditions are different, please contact LongQuan technical department.
LUBRICATION
The reducer is usually supplied without lubricant. The recommended quantity of lubricant is indicated on our catalogue and the first replaced must be done after 50-60 hours of running, then replaced after 600-800 working hours. The emptying of the gearbox should be made immediately after the working, with the oil still hot,in order to avoid the deposition of sludge.Check frequently the oil level and top up the oil whenever necessary.
